The player controls Ted and has only 60 seconds to collect supplies, tools, food, water, and family members before the bomb falls. On Chromebook, the game may be played through supported browser, Android, or cloud options depending on the version available to the user.
The first part of the game is a timed scavenging sequence. The player runs through the house and chooses what to take into the shelter. Useful items can include soup cans, water bottles, a radio, a flashlight, a gas mask, a map, an axe, a medkit, and other supplies. The player also needs to decide which family members to save: Ted, Dolores, Mary Jane, and Timmy. There is not enough time to take everything, so each run begins with different choices.
After the explosion, the game changes into a decision-based survival system. Each day, the player reads the journal, checks the condition of the family, and chooses how to use supplies. Food and water must be rationed carefully. Some characters may become sick, tired, hungry, thirsty, injured, or mentally unstable. The radio can be important because it may help the family receive messages from rescuers or other groups.
The main things the player does in 60 Seconds include:
· collecting supplies during the first minute;
· rationing food and water;
· sending characters outside on expeditions;
· responding to daily events;
· using tools to solve shelter problems;
· trying to keep family members alive;
· reaching one of several possible endings.
60 Seconds does not have traditional levels. Instead, it uses repeated survival days, random events, and different endings. Some events involve strangers at the shelter door, unusual sounds, broken equipment, disease, raiders, or chances to trade items. The player can send one family member outside to search for more supplies, but this can be risky. A character may return with useful items, come back injured, or not return at all.
To play well, the player must balance short-term needs with long-term survival. Giving too much food or water can waste supplies, but waiting too long can make characters weak or sick. Some items are useful only in specific events, so it is important to think before using them. The main goal is not to complete stages, but to survive long enough to be rescued, escape, or reach another ending. Each attempt can develop differently because the starting items, events, and character outcomes can change.
