Army of Darkness: Defense is a mobile tower defense and side-scrolling action game based on the film Army of Darkness. The game follows Ash Williams, who must defend the Necronomicon from waves of undead enemies called Deadites. The story is connected to the movie setting, where Ash is trapped in the past and has to survive long enough to protect the book and return to his own time.

Castle Defense Setup

The main objective is to stop enemies before they reach the Necronomicon. The player controls Ash near Lord Arthur’s castle while enemy waves move toward the book. If Ash is defeated or the enemies reach the protected area, the attempt fails. The game does not use a long story campaign with dialogue-heavy missions, but it does use the film’s characters and situation as the reason for each battle.

Ash, Allies, and Enemy Waves

Gameplay combines direct control and defense strategy. Ash can move left and right, use his shotgun, and attack enemies that get close. At the same time, the player can summon allies to help hold the line. These allies can include peasants, swordsmen, archers, horsemen, Lord Arthur, Duke Henry the Red, and the Wiseman. The player earns resources during waves and spends them on units, abilities, and upgrades.

Main gameplay elements include:

·         controlling Ash during side-scrolling battles;

·         defending the Necronomicon from Deadites;

·         shooting and attacking enemies;

·         summoning allies to fight on the battlefield;

·         collecting gold and resources from defeated enemies;

·         using abilities before or during waves;

·         upgrading Ash, allies, and castle defenses;

·         surviving through repeated enemy waves.

Levels and Progression

Army of Darkness: Defense uses wave-based levels rather than free exploration. Each stage sends groups of enemies toward the castle, and the player must survive until the wave is cleared. Progression is based on completing levels, earning gold, improving Ash’s health and damage, unlocking stronger allies, and adding defenses such as wall archers, catapults, or castle upgrades. Later waves become harder and require better timing and resource use.

To play effectively, the player should not rely only on Ash. It is important to summon allies early, collect dropped gold carefully, and upgrade defenses when enemies become stronger. Ash can stop smaller groups, but larger waves need support from units and abilities. Army of Darkness: Defense is mainly about protecting the book, managing resources, and holding the castle against undead attacks.
