Castles Divided by a Mountain

The battlefield usually shows two castles with a mountain between them. Because the castles cannot shoot directly in a straight line, the player must aim shots in a high arc. Each side has several cannons, storage areas, gunpowder, cannonballs, money, and a wind indicator. The mountain shape, castle layout, and distance between targets make each shot a calculation rather than a simple attack.

Aiming, Wind, and Resources

Gameplay is based on taking turns. On a turn, the player chooses a cannon, sets the firing angle, decides how much powder to use, and fires a cannonball toward the enemy castle. Wind changes between turns, so the same angle and powder amount may not work every time. The player also has to manage supplies, because cannonballs, powder, destroyed cannons, and other repairs cost money.

The main things players do in Ballerburg include:

·         choosing which cannon to fire;

·         setting the angle of the shot;

·         choosing the amount of gunpowder;

·         adjusting for wind direction and strength;

·         trying to hit the enemy king or castle;

·         buying cannonballs, powder, and repairs;

·         managing taxes, money, and kingdom morale.

Victory Through Damage or Economy

Ballerburg does not use standard levels like an action or platform game. Progress happens inside each match. A player can win by directly hitting the enemy king with a cannonball, or by damaging the enemy kingdom and economy until it collapses. The economy system adds another layer to the artillery gameplay, because the player can adjust taxes, maintain supplies, and build income structures, but poor management can reduce morale.

To play, the user studies the distance, checks the wind, chooses a cannon, and fires with a planned angle and powder amount. After each shot, it is useful to remember whether the cannonball landed too short, too far, or was pushed by the wind. The next turn can then be adjusted. The main goal is to use accurate shooting and resource management to destroy the opponent’s castle, hit the king, or force the enemy kingdom to surrender.
