Bears VS Babies is a competitive card game about constructing monsters and using them to defeat three types of Baby Armies. Its premise is limited to a conflict between player-built monsters and groups of Land, Sea, and Sky Babies. A match supports two to five participants and usually takes around twenty minutes.

Building Creatures From Separate Parts

Every monster must begin with a Head Card. Body parts can then be attached by matching the illustrated stitch lines, increasing the creature’s total strength. A player may maintain several monsters at the same time, and creatures of the same type form an army. Bear Heads count as Land, Sea, and Sky creatures, so they participate whenever any Baby Army attacks. This makes them useful but also exposes them to more battles.

Actions Available on a Turn

The game includes 107 cards, a cloth playmat, and an FAQ booklet. The deck is divided into three draw piles, while Baby Cards are placed face down in color-coded areas of the mat as they appear. Players receive a number of actions based on group size: four actions with two players, three with three players, and two with four or more. Drawing or playing one card normally uses one action.

Instead of taking regular actions, a player may:

  • Provoke one Baby Army and immediately begin a battle.
  • Dumpster Dive to take one chosen card from the discard pile.
  • Draw cards to obtain additional heads, body parts, or special effects.
  • Play a Head Card to start another monster.
  • Attach compatible parts to increase an existing monster’s strength.
  • Use action cards to modify creatures or interfere with another player.
  • Delay a battle until more information about the Baby Army is available.

Battles and Final Scoring

When an army is provoked, its Baby Cards are revealed and their strength values are added together. Every Monster Army matching that type must participate, including those belonging to the player who started the fight. If a Monster Army meets or exceeds the Babies’ strength, the strongest qualifying player collects those Baby Cards as points. If nobody can defeat them, the Babies are discarded. All monsters involved in the battle are also discarded afterward.
