Toca Lab

Toca Lab is a science-themed play app from Toca Boca where players experiment with elements or plants in a virtual lab. The game does not have a traditional story campaign with characters, quests, or a final boss. Instead, it is built around discovery. The player starts with a small number of available objects and uses lab tools to unlock more results through experimentation.

Science Play Format

In Toca Lab: Elements, the main goal is to discover all 118 elements from the periodic table. The player interacts with element characters and tests them with different lab tools. The game does not teach chemistry through long explanations. It uses simple reactions, movement, sounds, and visual changes to make each element feel interactive. The official Toca Boca Jr pages describe it as a way to explore science and run experiments.

Tools and Experiments

Gameplay is based on trying tools and watching what changes. The player can place an element or plant into a station, apply an action, and see whether it transforms, reacts, or unlocks something new. Toca Lab: Plants follows a similar idea, but its focus is botany. In that version, the player experiments with plants until all 35 plant characters are collected.

Main gameplay elements include:

Toca Lab does not use levels like an action or platform game. Progression comes from discoveries. In Toca Lab: Elements, the player moves toward completing the periodic table. In Toca Lab: Plants, progress is connected to collecting plant characters and continuing to evolve them. There is no strict timer or losing condition, so the player can experiment at their own pace.

To play, the player selects an available object, drags it to a lab tool, and watches the result. If the experiment creates something new, the collection grows. If not, the player can try another tool or repeat the process in a different order. Toca Lab is mainly about science-themed interaction, collecting discoveries, and using virtual experiments to explore elements or plants.
