Coyote is a rhythm and memory card game in which players perform spoken phrases and physical actions in a fixed sequence. A row of cards is placed across the table, and participants move through it while maintaining a shared beat. Mistakes give players penalties, and collecting three penalties causes elimination. The game has no story or fictional campaign. It contains 66 cards, supports three to eight participants, and usually takes about ten minutes.

Establishing the First Sequence

The number of starting Action Cards normally matches the number of players, although a three-player group begins with six. Coyote and Attack Cards drawn during setup are returned to the deck and replaced. Each Action Card shows a phrase and a movement. The first participant handles the leftmost card, the next person performs the following card, and play continues clockwise. Before every action, everyone strikes the table twice to maintain the rhythm.

Adding Rules After Successful Rounds

If the group completes the entire row without an error, the draw pile passes to the next first player. That participant draws three cards, chooses one to add, and places the other two at the bottom of the deck. Action Cards extend the sequence, Attack Cards impose restrictions on selected players or actions, and Coyote Cards modify multiple cards according to their colors or positions. The sequence therefore becomes longer and requires more attention after each success.

A player receives a penalty for several possible mistakes:

  • Saying the wrong phrase or performing the wrong movement.
  • Acting when another participant should be performing.
  • Forgetting to say part of the assigned card.
  • Taking too long and breaking the established rhythm.
  • Missing one or both shared table beats.
  • Ignoring a Coyote Card that modifies an action.
  • Forgetting a restriction placed by an Attack Card.
  • Performing the correct cards in the wrong order.

Competitive and Cooperative Goals

In Competitive Mode, the player responsible for an error takes a face-down penalty card. The same sequence is attempted again without passing the deck or adding a card. After receiving three penalties, that participant leaves the game, and the last remaining player wins. Since the number of active players decreases, the relationship between seating positions and the card row also changes during later rounds.
