Godus is a god simulator and strategy game where the player controls the land, guides followers, and helps a small civilization grow. The game begins with two followers who need space to build their first home. From there, the player clears rocks, shapes the terrain, creates flat land, and allows the settlement to expand. There is a light story setup about becoming a god-like figure for the followers, but the game is not driven by a detailed plot. Most of the experience comes from managing land, belief, population, and expansion.

There is a light story setup about becoming a god-like figure for the followers, but the game is not driven by a detailed plot. Most of the experience comes from managing land, belief, population, and expansion.
The central mechanic is land sculpting. The player can raise, lower, and smooth layers of terrain to make room for houses, farms, paths, and new settlement areas. Terrain changes cost Belief, which works as an important resource. Followers generate Belief over time, and the player spends it to reshape the world or use god powers. The main loop is simple: collect Belief, sculpt land, create space for buildings, and help the population grow.
Godus does not have normal levels with a start and finish. Progression is based on expanding the civilization and unlocking cards. As the population increases, the player receives cards that open new powers, buildings, upgrades, and follower abilities. These cards work like milestones in the game. They guide the player through new stages of development, such as better homes, stronger followers, farming, and more advanced settlement systems.
The main gameplay elements include:
Exploration is also part of the game. The player gradually opens more land by expanding the settlement and creating paths for followers. At certain points, the player can find a damaged ship and gather resources to repair it, which allows travel to another world. God powers are used to influence the environment and help the civilization. The player is not directly controlling one hero. Instead, the role is to manage the whole population from above and create conditions where followers can survive and grow.
To play Godus, start by helping the first followers build a home, then continue shaping land so more houses can appear. Keep collecting Belief from full homes, use it carefully, and avoid wasting it on unnecessary terrain changes. The game is about long-term development rather than quick missions. A good approach is to flatten land near existing homes, keep the settlement connected, unlock cards when possible, and expand toward useful resources and new areas.
