Risk is a strategy board game about territory control, army placement, and turn-based conquest. The game does not have a story campaign with characters or chapters. Instead, it creates a conflict between players who command armies on a world map. The main objective in the classic version is to capture territories, eliminate opponents, and become the last player controlling the board.

Map Control and Main Objective

The classic Risk board is divided into territories grouped into continents. Each player controls some territories and places armies on them. On a turn, the player receives reinforcements based on the number of territories they own, possible continent bonuses, and card sets. These armies are then placed on controlled territories before attacking begins. The player must decide whether to defend borders, expand into weak areas, or try to take an entire continent for extra reinforcements.

Attacking and Defending

Combat happens between neighboring territories. The attacker chooses a territory they control and attacks an adjacent enemy territory. Battles are resolved with dice, so the result depends on both army numbers and chance. If the defender loses all armies in a territory, the attacker captures it and moves armies into the new area. After attacking, the player can usually move armies once to strengthen a position.

Main gameplay elements include:

·         placing reinforcements at the start of a turn;

·         attacking adjacent enemy territories;

·         rolling dice to resolve battles;

·         capturing territories from opponents;

·         collecting Risk cards after successful conquest;

·         trading card sets for extra armies;

·         defending continents and borders;

·         eliminating opponents to win the game.

Modes, Maps, and Progression

Risk does not use levels like an arcade game. Progression happens inside each match as players gain or lose territory. The digital version, RISK: Global Domination, adds online multiplayer, ranked and casual games, AI opponents, classic maps, and many custom maps. The classic map has 42 territories, while some digital maps are smaller for quicker games or larger for longer battles.

To play effectively, the player should avoid spreading armies too thinly. It is often better to hold a defensible area, protect borders, and attack only when there is enough advantage. Cards are important because trading them can give a large reinforcement boost. Risk is mainly about territory control, probability, timing, and deciding when to attack or wait.
